Every Portrait Begins with a Story

Every Portrait Begins with a Story

People often ask me how I create my portraits.

They notice the beautiful dresses, the soft light, the carefully crafted backgrounds, or the hours spent bringing everything together. And while I truly love the artistry behind each portrait, that's never where the portrait begins.

Every portrait begins with heart—the heart of a child—and ends with meaning... a memory her family will treasure for years to come.

The dresses, the lighting, the artistic editing... they're simply the tools I use to express that heart. They aren't the reason families fall in love with their portraits.

The real magic happens long before I ever sit down at my computer.

It begins with a story.

When a little girl steps into my studio, I don't tell her...

"Stand here."

"Look over there."

Instead, I invite her into a world of imagination.

"What if there was a little fox who had never met a princess before?"

"I wonder if he's trying to decide whether he can trust you."

Suddenly she isn't thinking about having her picture taken.

She's wondering.

She's imagining.

She's living the story.

That's why her expression feels genuine.

That's why her smile isn't forced.

That's why years later, when her parents look at this portrait hanging on their wall, they don't just see a beautiful dress or an artistic image.

They remember who she was.

Full of wonder.

Before I ever press the shutter, we discover the story together. My job is simply to preserve the moments that naturally unfold.

The portrait isn't created in Photoshop.

It begins in the heart of a child.

And perhaps that's why these portraits mean so much years later.

Because while childhood doesn't last forever...

The stories we preserve can.
