‘Nothing sucks more than that moment during an argument when you realize you’re wrong.”

You know that moment don’t you? Have you ever had it when you’re arguing with your child? What do you do? Do you ever admit it or do you just pretend you’re right just because you’re the adult? And do you ever say to yourself “oh my, I’ve turned into my mother” lol Oh yeah – been there too have you? Well so have I.
It’s not easy being a parent is it? It is fun however to just simply know certain things that seem magical to your children when you know the answers and you also know things they did that they thought you could never find out about. I have to admit, being a mother has been one of the single greatest joys in my life. It has not been easy – it’s just been a joy.
I used to say “because I’m the mom, that’s why!”
What’s your favorite thing to tell your kids when the argument has to be over?

Children can say things sometimes that really make us stop, take a step back and get a grip on life.
I know over the years my son has said a few priceless things that I will always remember.
This video is one of those moments that makes you think and I wanted to be able to share it with you.
Give your kids a really long hug today. Time passes so fast – you just won’t believe it.

One of my favorite stories that I’ve heard over the years when talking to parents about their children was this…
A mom came in to talk to me about creating an image of her new little boy. He had just come from Romania. They had tried for years to have children and weren’t successful so they went the adoption route and it took them even more years to finally receive their son.
At the time I knew very little about adopted children and I have since learned so much more. They all have their own stories that come with them.
This little guy was a little older – Three, I think. I was told about a bear that had made the trip with him all the way over to the US. It was “the Nightmare Bear”. It was a cute little brown bear that this little guy was very attached to.
You see this little fellow had terrible night terrors. Everyone was quite concerned about if the nightmares would get worse as he made a trip to America – a strange land with strange speaking people.
Someone at the orphanage had an idea and gave this little brown bear to the little fellow and told him “this is your Nightmare Bear sweetheart. He wants to take all your nightmares away from you and put them in a place where they can never find you again so you will be free of those terrible nightmares”.
Sounds a little silly when you first hear it. But amazingly enough – it actually worked. This little guy slept with this bear every night and from the very first night he arrived in America – NO nightmares. This was really a miraculous thing. This child had been plagued with nightmares for over a year and it had taken some serious toll on him because he got very little sleep.
We photographed this little guy having a conversation with his bear down by the river. That was a long time ago but since then I have photographed many little boys having a conversation with a bear and every time I think about that first one.
Just think how something a like as a little brown bear, a kind word and a story can change someone’s life. Little things in life can make big changes.
Sleep tight!

Wedding season is in full swing. There are so many choices for brides today and I know it can be overwhelming.
We’ve all heard that when the wedding day is over the only thing remaining is your spouse and your photographs.
This is true but there are the memories of the day and we hope that yours are filled with wonder not with any regrets.
Choose the professionals you work with on your special day, very carefully. Take a tiny step back and think about what is happening. Then enjoy your day and have no regrets.
I received this email from a past client and thought I’d share it with you…
Cathy I had to tell you…
Saturday I went to Mike’s nieces wedding and there was a young woman taking pictures. THANK GOD I FOUND YOU FOR OUR GIRLS WEDDING !!! She was all over the place in the way. I would try to watch the sand ceremony but her butt was in the way and I could not see anything. During the prayers all you could hear was the clicking of her camera. The list just goes on . I had to tell so you could pass this on when you give talks to future photographers – THINK OF THE PEOPLE WATCHING THE WEDDING too.
Cathy you are the best and I had to tell you so. Not only are you a wonderful photographer but you are a GREAT friend. Jo Anne
We are all so excited for you on your wedding day also and we LOVE getting those special images for you BUT it is also possible to do all that and still be respectful of your guest too. I always say, your day is not about me taking pictures, it’s about your celebration and it’s my job to capture it through my eyes the best that I can without monopolizing your day with photo taking. It can be done – we’ve done it that way for years.
Choose your professional carefully.
